Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly has responded to concerns surrounding the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, saying he remains “confident” in it and its safety for use.
His comments come after an increasing number of European countries including Germany, France, and Italy suspended the rollout of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.
The measure has been deemed a precaution in order to investigate a series of incidents involving blood clots.
“There is – at this point – no evidence that it causes blood clots,” Professor Kelly said.
“In this situation, I can absolutely say that I remain confident in the AstraZeneca vaccine, that it’s safe.”
