Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley claims speculation around star Magpies midfielder Adam Treloar’s future at the club is “disrespectful”.

Buckley took to Twitter this afternoon to dismiss a media report claiming he told Treloar via a phone call that he was no longer wanted by senior players at the club.

He said the report on Melbourne’s SEN radio on Monday “was news to me”.

“The constant rumour and innuendo is disrespectful to Adam, the club and our supporters,” Buckley posted on Twitter.

“We’ll continue to communicate directly and sensitively with Adz (Treloar) and his management.

There has been mounting speculation Collingwood is trying to move the highly paid Treloar on to free up a space in the Magpies’ bulging salary cap.

The club had stayed silent on the matter until Buckley’s tweet.

Treloar is one of a number of Magpies players, including wingman Tom Phillips and forward Jaidyn Stephenson, faced with an uncertain future at the club.

The former Greater Western Sydney player’s partner Kim Ravaillion has signed a Super Netball club to play with the Queensland Firebirds next year.

It was thought Treloar could follow Ravaillion and sign with either of the Queensland AFL clubs, but the Brisbane Lions have ruled out an approach for him and the Gold Coast Suns’ interest has cooled.

The 27-year-old has been intent on wanting to stay at Collingwood, where he is contracted at until the end of the 2025 season.

He joined the Magpies in 2016 after four seasons with the Giants.

In other trade news, North Melbourne’s Ben Brown has requested a move to the Demons.

Brown was encouraged to explore his options back in September and this afternoon the Kangaroos confirmed the 27-year-old wanted to join the Demons.

“We spoke honestly with Ben in September about the direction of our football club and what was best for his career, and we committed to finding an outcome that would suit both parties,” Kangaroos general manager of football Brady Rawlings said.

“As Ben has nominated his preferred club, we will now work to secure a trade that is a good outcome for the club.”

Brown is a four-time leading goalkicker for the Kangaroos with 287 majors in 130 matches but he struggled with form and injury this year.

Meanwhile, the Dockers announced they had agreed to trade forward Jesse Hogan to the Giants.

Hogan, contracted at the Dockers until the end of next year, has struggled to live up to expectations after his high-profile move from Melbourne in 2018.
