Collingwood has landed a major coup ahead of the 2021 season with highly regarded Hawthorn football manager Graham Wright to join the Magpies as director of football.

Sources confirmed he would join the Magpies, with Hawthorn announcing Wright was departing to seek a new challenge having been with the club since 2007.

Wright is a natural fit at Collingwood to replace Geoff Walsh, who retired at the end of last year, having played 201 games with the Magpies where he finished runner-up in the Brownlow Medal count when they won their drought-breaking premiership in 1990.

Former Magpies premiership captain Nick Maxwell and long-serving football manager Marcus Wagner had been sharing the role since Walsh’s departure, but Wright brings great experience and success to the position, as the Magpies look to reset their list under Nathan Buckley, who is out of contract at the end of the year.
