He’s been missing in action for almost a year, but a familiar face is set to return to the classroom. Constable Kenny Koala, ACT Policing’s educational mascot, will make his comeback to Canberra schools this week, 11 months since visits were halted due to COVID-19 restrictions. Kenny Koala, along with his handler David Packwood, will resume school and child-care centre visits from Monday. Mr Packwood said while it had been some time since the last visit to a school, he was hoping to pick back up where he left off. “It’s been too long for both Kenny and I since we’ve been in the schools, and we’re both looking forward to sharing important messages about road safety, protective behaviour, decision making and online safety,” he said. “Our new kindergarten to year 2 Stay Ok Online component was only delivered to a few schools last year, so it will be good to share those important messages with many more students.” The Constable Kenny program has been running in the ACT for more than 40 years. In an average year, the program reaches more than 1200 classrooms and more than 25,000 children across Canberra.
