Officials used a portable crane, a huge net, and high pressure water hoses to end the water tower sit-in at the Yatala labor prison.

One of the men had been occupying the disused tower since Friday. The other joined him later. They were protesting at the findings of a Royal Commission into the prison last year.

The plan was to drop the net over the prisoners, pin them to the tower and then hoist it down with a crane.

But after the net had been dropped over the tower the prisoners cut at it with bars and scrambled free.

Then they hung on precariously as the crane lowered the water tank to the ground. Prison officers sprayed the prisoners with water to quieten them during the operation.

Soon after they were brought down there was a scuffle between the prisoners and warders.
