Dylan Alcott and Heath Davidson have clinched another major championship following their victory in the Australian Open quad wheelchair doubles final.
Key points:
- Alcott and Davidson won their fourth straight doubles title in Melbourne
- They defeated Andy Lapthorne and David Wagner 6-2, 3-6 [10-7] in the final
- Alcott is bidding to win a seventh consecutive Australian Open singles championship
The Australian top seeds beat Briton Andy Lapthorne and American David Wagner 6-2, 3-6 [10-7] on Margaret Court Arena to claim their fourth consecutive doubles title in Melbourne.
The win is Alcott’s eighth major doubles crown.
Alcott said winning alongside his close friend Davidson added significance to the victory.
“I get to play tennis with one of my best mates,” said Alcott, who also won 2016 Paralympic gold with Davidson in the quad doubles.
“Not many people can say that. We don’t just hang out in tennis, we hang out in everyday life, too. It’s the 20th anniversary of us meeting this year.
“I have four Australian Open titles. Pretty awesome. Very proud of Heath and where he’s come from.”

Alcott, who is chasing a seventh straight singles title in the final against Sam Schröder, said he and Davidson appreciated the opportunity to play in Melbourne amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are so lucky to be playing tennis at the moment,” he said.
“We aren’t taking that opportunity for granted. I feel very grateful to be here. When other people can’t do their jobs, have lost loved ones, lost their jobs, can’t travel, are in lockdown… when you are grateful for the moment, I think you can relax.

Davidson echoed Alcott’s sentiments.
“We’re lucky to be here,” he said.
“I’m really thankful for everyone that is allowing this to happen.”
Alcott said he and Davidson planned to celebrate their doubles win, although it would be a quiet affair on his part given he still has the singles final coming up.
“Heath might have a beer, I’m on the waters,” he said.
“He’s done, I’m not.”
