The Greencross Vets clinic in Phillip has been closed temporarily after a fire caused “significant damage” on Wednesday night. The ACT Emergency Services Agency said the fire at the clinic in Colbee Court was caused by an electrical fault in a clothes dryer. The agency urged people remember to take care with electrical appliances and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Greencross Vets spokesman Peter Hudson said the fire happened at 6.30pm on Wednesday, when the clinic was closed. No people or animals were in the building at the time. ACT Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze. Mr Hudson said following the fire, the clinic was closed temporarily and clients should not attend it. But he said Greencross Vets would definitely re-open on the site. “Greencross Vets Phillip has temporarily closed due to significant fire damage to the clinic,” clients were told on Friday. “No pets, clients or team members were on site at the time of the fire and we are happy to report everyone is safe and well. The clinic is closed until further notice.” Clients were asked to seek appointments at other Greencross Vets clinics in Canberra until the Phillip clinic could re-open. Mr Hudson said he understood no other nearby businesses were affected. The Asian Provisions supermarket was still able to trade on Friday.
