Greg Norman is back in hospital in Florida after testing positive for COVID-19, the 65-year-old Australian golfing great has said on social media.

Norman, who won the British Open in 1986 and 1993, said he tested negative at a father-son exhibition golf tournament in Orlando in the United States last weekend, but began to experience fever, and joint and muscle aches later in the week.

Norman’s son had played with his father at the PNC Championship and has already confirmed he and his wife have tested positive.

Greg Norman went into hospital on Christmas and returned home to self-isolate while awaiting the results of another test, but had to return after it came back positive.

“[I’m on] the path to full recovery. Hoping to be out later today,” he said on Instagram, adding he was receiving an infusion of antibodies.

The 65-year-old said: “This virus kicked the crap out of me like nothing I have ever experienced before.”

“Muscle and joint pain on another level. Headaches that feel like a chisel going through your head scrapping little bits off each time,” he posted.

Norman said his sense of taste had been affected, saying beer and wine tasted bad, and added he had struggled with memory and irritability.

“Please take care. And for those doubters out there, do not judge or cast unwarranted comments and opinions,” he said.

“I would not [want] anyone, even you, to experience this hideous virus. So I ask, do what is right, not just for you, but your family, friends, co-workers and other people around.”

Norman lives in Florida, which is one of the US states hit hardest by coronavirus.
