The hit and run incident occurred in Rosny on March 17 last year. The child had been riding his bicycle across the road on a green pedestrian light when he was struck.Police attending the scene found the young boy lying in the intersection and he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. In January, Dale Barry Lockett pleaded guilty to being a driver involved in a crash and failing to stop, driving without a licence, and failing to give way at a pedestrian crossing. The lawyer for the Berriedale man told Magistrate Chris Webster he had briefly stopped and spoke to a woman with the youth to see if emergency services had been called before he “panicked” and fled the scene. His lawyer Stuart Wright said Lockett had a significant number of driving offences but his last offence was in 2013, and he had made a full admission to police the day after the crash.
