Steve Smith, the chairman of the MCC, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan and his chairman Mike Fitzpatrick took Biden out on to MCG. Smith recalled that, as the future president handed the footy to the umpire, Biden suggested that he would like to have a kick.
“All he wanted to do is kick the footy,” said Smith, noting that Biden had played rugby in his youth and was familiar with the oval-shaped football.
