A second day of heavy rain pummelled eastern NSW putting more communities at risk of flood. In Port Macquarie and along the Manning River the damage was assessed, while in Richmond, Penrith and areas downstream from the Warragamba Dam waited as the angry, fast flowing, brown waters of the Hawkesbury River and Nepean River rose higher and higher. The incredible footage shows a shipping container being moved downstream under the bridge like it was nothing more than cardboard box. As we head into Sunday evening the Bureau of Meteorology warned that the Hawkesbury at North Richmond could reach 15 metres by Monday morning. Evacuation orders were given by the SES for all properties within the area bounded by the Nepean River, south of the Great Western Highway and west of Peach Tree Creek, including Captains Road; Fitch Avenue; Ladbury Avenue; Memorial Avenue; Nepean Avenue; and Recreation Avenue. A huge number of roads are closed in Newcastle and the Hunter region due to fallen trees, landslips and flooding. Moderate flooding is occurring along the Williams River at Mill Dam Falls and minor flooding at Dungog. The Paterson River is at 12.49 metres with major flooding at Gostwyck Bridge.
