Concetta Fierravanti-Wells used a parliamentary speech on Wednesday to criticise the NSW Liberal party‘s head office for a delay in dealing with a long-running factional dispute involving powerbroker Alex Hawke. The dispute involves a Liberal branch meeting in October 2018. Members of the party’s right faction allege branch minutes were doctored in a move which would have secured Mr Hawke’s power base. A number of conservatives tried to join the local branch at the October meeting; minutes sent to the party‘s state director state their memberships had been rejected, but the 10 would-be members have said they were accepted into the branch.“One NSW MP who later became a Minister is reported to have been involved in the altering of branch records for a meeting at which 10 new members were accepted into his conference,” Ms Fierravanti-Wells said.A complaint was made with the Liberal party’s powerful state executive, but it’s understood it was withdrawn late last year, with no determination having been made. The NSW Liberal party had called in a former ICAC executive to investigate the dispute before the complaint was withdrawn. However the Telegraph understands the matter is set to be raised again in today’s state executive meeting.Ms Fierravanti-Wells didn‘t name Mr Hawke on her parliamentary speech but warned “the MP at the centre of the accusations will most certainly be challenged at his next preselection, so 10 new members could make all the difference”.She said that despite two years having passed since the incident “the allegations of record tampering and the MP‘s role are still to be resolved”.“The party machine in this instance seems unable or unwilling to make a judgment as to integrity,” she said.Mr Hawke declined to comment.NAT – Stay Informed – Social Media
