A P-plate driver has been charged after a car being pursued by police crashed into a power pole in Sydney’s south-west, killing a male passenger.
Police say highway patrol officers from Campbelltown tried to stop the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer about 11.20pm on Thursday after it was detected speeding.

The officers began to chase the car when the driver did not stop, police allege. The man’s car struck the pole on Eastwood Road, Leppington, a short time later.
The driver and passenger, both aged 18, were thrown from the vehicle, police said. The passenger died at the scene.
