The Minyama man died after he was struck by a vehicle on Maroochydore Blvd about 1.30am Friday.Paramedics were unable to revive him.Sunshine Coast police Acting Superintendent Jason Overland said it was a “tragic incident” and many people would be hurting today.“It is very traumatic,” Act Supt Overland said.“The Sunshine Coast is a very small place.“There will be lots of people waking up to this terribly sad news.

“My heart breaks for the family involved, there’s only one or two degrees of separation between families on the Sunshine Coast.”Act Supt Overland said a man was placed in custody around 10am and was assisting police inquiries.It’s believed the car involved was a Mazda sedan.Charges have not been laid.

He said the forensic crash unit was conducting a thorough investigation.Act Supt Overland said police were made aware of a similar but unrelated incident early Thursday morning in the same area.“Police were attending that scene and then came across this more serious incident,” he said.Police are appealing for dashcam footage of the area between 11pm and 1.30am.Act Supt Overland said the man would appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court in coming weeks.
