A man in his 20s is in hospital after being swept out to sea from rocks at a popular beach in Sydney’s Royal National Park.
Emergency services descended on the area surrounding Wattamolla Beach, finding the man treading water 350 metres off the coast about 3.50pm on Friday, more than an hour after he was swept into the ocean.
He is believed to have been fishing off the rocks when he went in about 2.40pm.
Sutherland police, NSW Ambulance helicopter personnel and those from Life Saving NSW all joined in the rescue effort. The man was flown to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
