Third seed Naomi Osaka has reminded local hope Ashleigh Barty of who her main competition is at the Australian Open, dispatching veteran Hsieh Su-wei to reach the semi-finals.
The three-time grand slam winner displayed an ominous combination of power and placement to brush Su-wei aside, winning 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour.
Osaka will now play the winner of Tuesday night’s quarter-final between Simona Halep and Serena Williams.
“I know my next opponent is Serena or Halep. I always watch Serena’s matches anyways, but everyone has told me about my draw here so I don’t really have a choice but knowing who my next opponent is,” Osaka said on-court after the victory.
