After eight years on Garema Place, Shorty’s has announced it is closing down. Bar management announced the news in a post on the Shorty’s Canberra Facebook page. “Life is Short – We have absolutely no regrets and are proud of what we’ve achieved,” the post said. “From a trendy breakfast hotspot in our early days to winning best late-night entertainment venue many years later. “And you never know, although life is short, we may see you somewhere down the track …” The bar management thanked former and current staff, suppliers, punters and chalk artist Tux for his “remarkable (and often controversial) range of colourful boards and posters over the years”. They did not cite any specific reasons for the bar’s closure. Shorty’s will open for the last time on November 28.
