A quarantine hotel worker in Sydney has tested positive to COVID-19, ending NSW’s record 55-day streak of zero cases of community transmission.

The case, notified to NSW Health late on Saturday, will be included in tomorrow’s numbers.

The worker was stationed at two quarantine hotels, which have not yet been identified.

NSW Health said the source of the infection was still under investigation. Urgent genome sequencing and testing of close contacts of the worker was underway.

“Further information will be provided when available, including regarding any community risks should they be identified,” it said in a statement.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard and NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant are expected to provide an update at 1pm on Sunday.

More to come.
