“Investigators became concerned about threats the man allegedly made towards a member of the public and executed a search warrant at a property in Kepnock on 3 November 2020.”
Police said “a number of electronic devices and a notebook” were seized at the home, and it will be alleged the devices contained “documents indicating a desire to undertake acts of violent extremism”.
Scott Lee, the AFP Assistant Commissioner of counter-terrorism, said the decision to charge the man “was made to prevent a terrorist attack in Australia and to protect the community”.
The Queensland JCTT includes AFP officers, Queensland Police, and officers from ASIO.
“The investigation highlights the professionalism and dedication of the individuals and agencies involved in the JCTT, and their commitment to bringing people to account for their criminal actions,” Assistant Commissioner Lee said.
Assistant Commissioner Cheryl Scanlon from Queensland Police said the arrest is a “credit” to the hard work of the partner agencies and their “commitment to community safety”.
The police agencies urged anyone with information about extremist activity or possible threats to come forward by calling the National Security Hotline, “no matter how small or insignificant you may think the information will be”.
