Shadow treasurer David Janeztki said both the state and federal governments had to do “its fair share” of supporting business.

“Support from the federal government by extending JobKeeper is vital, but so is the financial support required by Queenslanders from this state government,” he said.

“[The Palaszczuk government] cannot keep crying ‘Canberra’ just because they are out of ideas, they need to step up and do something for Queensland businesses.

“There seems to be no ideas, no plans, no new initiatives.”

A total of 259,000 Queensland workers relied on JobKeeper in December, data compiled by the Australian Tax Office and released by the federal government earlier this month revealed.

Of those, there were 49,200 recipients on the Gold Coast, 21,300 on the Sunshine Coast and 16,600 in Cairns.

Ms Palaszczuk pointed to relief measures put in place last year which are no longer available and said it was up to the federal government to prop up the tourism industry “because they shut the international borders”.

“We put in small business grants, and we have had the Minister for Small Business travelling right across Queensland talking to small business communities about how we can help them,” she said.

“What the businesses are talking to me fundamentally about is the end of JobKeeper.”

During Question Time, she told Mr Janetzki and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli to “go and listen to people, don’t whinge”.
