Dr Rose Cairns, senior poisons specialist at NSW Poisons Information Centre and Lecturer in Pharmacy at The University of Sydney, said much has been written about an increase of self harm among young people, and it was unfortunate to see it was happening on school grounds.

“Our data doens’t contain what led up to that self harm, we don’t know whether it’s stress about an exam [for example], but it’s part of that broader concerning trend,” she said.
