Questions as to why hotel quarantine workers were allowed to work second jobs while employed in roles where they could potentially be exposed to COVID-19 arose after it emerged the security guard whose positive test result sent WA into a five-day lockdown also worked as a ride share driver.
“Obviously people working in hotel quarantine still have lives,” Mr McGowan said, but the government was finalising an arrangement to stop them taking on secondary work while employed in the quarantine system.
Victoria’s unfolding coronavirus situation also meant a loosening of restrictions on travellers to WA from the state would be postponed and people entering from Victoria still have to self-isolate for two weeks.
Mr McGowan said news a nebuliser – a machine that allows liquid medication to be inhaled as a vapour – could have played a role in the spread of COVID-19 in a Melbourne hotel had spurred the WA government to ban them from the state’s hotel quarantine system.

“We don’t think there are many, if any, being used in our hotel quarantine at the moment,” he said.
“They’re obviously a threat factor that has been identified.”
Several policies, including wearing a mask in public and capacity limits for restaurants, cafes and pubs, remain in place for WA’s transition out of lockdown.
Many restrictions are due to be lifted at 12.01am on Sunday, February 14, to allow for the virus’ full 14-day incubation period to run its course.
