Praties is closing its Burnie store with the franchisee advising customers on Thursday it would be serving up hot baked spuds for the last time on March 13.The food outlet – which markets itself as fast food, not junk food – has been operating for more than 20 years in the North West city and offered iso delivery during the region’s extended COVID-19 lockdown.“The building has been sold and we have agreed to vacate early so as the new owners can start renovations,” the Facebook post said.“If you would like to restart the franchise at a different location please contact Praties Australia.”It is not clear what the new owners intend to do with the building once it is renovated or what it might become.The Burnie Pratie’s store in Alexander St is across the road and dwarfed but signs for fast food giants Hungry Jacks and KFC.So far more than 500 customers have expressed their shock via Facebook at the news they will not be able to get a baked potato with a variety of toppings in Burnie.“This is so sad. It’s been an icon of Burnie for as long as I can remember. Had many a potato meal there. Will miss you,” said one.“Someone please take over the franchise!
