New South Wales Emergency Services Minister David Elliott says there are 1500 SES volunteers who are currently out right now “making sure that our families are safe”.
Prolonged heavy rainfall has lashed parts of New South Wales, leading to widespread damage and flooding.
Mr Elliott said people have been told to “defer unnecessary travel”.
“Make sure that if you don’t need to be in a car particularly in these areas which have been declared disaster areas, well then don’t go anywhere”.
“People may need to consider working from home again,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
