A man from the northern beaches of Sydney has been charged with breaching a public health order after he was found on the South Coast. The 70-year-old Avalon man has been fined $1000 for failing to comply with public health orders. The alarm was raised after the man attended a leisure centre in Ulladulla at 3.30pm on Monday, December 21, and signed in with his Avalon address. Staff members raised concerns with management and the man was asked to leave. The man left the leisure centre and the breach was reported to the South Coast police by the Shoalhaven City Council. “Council staff directed the patron to leave the council-premise immediately,” it said in a statement. “Council reported the breach to NSW Police and sought advice from NSW Health. As a precautionary measure, council will close the Ulladulla Leisure Centre whilst the NSW Police are investigating the breach.” South Coast police said the man travelled from his northern beaches home to Narrawallee on Thursday, December 17, against the public health order for northern beaches residents to stay home. The man also failed to self isolate from from midnight on December 20. People from the Northern Beaches have been ordered to stay at home because of a growing cluster of coronavirus cases. There was widespread confusion on the South Coast on Sunday as the entire Illawarra-Shoalhaven region was included in the NSW and ACT’s list of COVID-19 affected areas. Both governments retracted that on Monday morning, with only the Wollongong LGA still included. However, scores of ACT residents rushed home to avoid quarantine as new measures were imposed causing an exodus and uncertainty for accommodation providers who had been preparing for one of their busiest seasons yet. There are 83 infections linked to the northern beaches cluster after a further 15 infections were added on Monday. The NSW Premier is expected to announce that latest numbers at 11am on Tuesday.
