Tasmania Police said the Australian Maritime Safety Authority alerted them on Saturday afternoon to the distress call in the Great Ravine area of the national park.

The chopper is currently en route to the area in the state’s South-West, leaving from Hobart about 5pm.Meanwhile, the Tasmania Fire Service alerted locals to a small bushfire near Launceston at Downing Street, Riverside, about 4pm.The TFS confirmed the fire was not a threat to communities, but warned ash and smoke may be visible around Riverside and the Launceston Basin area.Those with medical conditions should have a personal plan to avoid smoke, and those travelling through smoke should turn on their headlights and drive slowly.
