Cricket Tasmania has apologised for the long lines outside the Bellerive Oval yesterday due to ticketing problems.
The Hobart Hurricanes had a comfortable win in the end over the Melbourne Stars in Saturday’s Big Bash League match.
But lines snaked around the venue, with fans left waiting outside as the match began due to faulty ticket scanning equipment.
Additional staff had to manually provide COVID-19 contact tracing for patrons as they entered.
The technical issues arose at the southern gate on the corner of Beach and Church street.
Cricket Tasmania decided to use a manual system of sighting tickets, recording information and permitting entry, which allowed all patrons in the venue by the seventh over.
Under normal circumstances, patrons would have the choice of which gate they entered.
To operate Bellerive Oval in a COVID-safe manner the facility is separated into zones to provide for thorough contact tracing should it be required, which meant the patrons impacted by yesterday’s technical issue could not use alternate entry points.
The Hobart Hurricanes are playing the Melbourne Stars again on Monday.
There are plans in place for that game if there are further technical problems.
