AFL Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell has opened up about the long afternoons he spent kicking the footy in the backyard as a kid.
The Hawthorn star’s mother, Sandra Mitchell, has listed the family’s four-bedroom home at 20 Fairmont Ave, Camberwell — where he grew up — with a price guide of $2.5m-$2.75m.
Mitchell, the son of former AFL player Barry Mitchell, who played for Sydney, Carlton and Collingwood, said he loved growing up in Camberwell and saw himself one day settling down in the area in a family home of his own.

The backyard was the perfect spot for playing cricket and basketball, he said, or for booting around a Sherrin.
“We had a big trampoline and we were always playing, my brother, sister and I, in the backyard,” Mitchell, 27, said.

“Every year we had birthday parties and it’s always funny looking back at photos from years ago when you were really young.
“It is sad to see it go, but that’s life; things change.”
Ms Mitchell said she and her ex-husband bought the home a month before Tom was born and moved in when he was only a month old.
“We just liked the area really, loved the area,” Ms Mitchell said.
“We’d come back from Sydney and we were renting in Kew. We never put a pool in the backyard because we thought kids like to run around.
“Every year we’d make a banner for Tom and he would run through it.
“It was a great place for entertaining, that’s for sure. The kids always had sleepovers.”
Ms Mitchell said the home had been freshly painted and was extended in 2007 to include a fourth bedroom and a larger living area.
Marshall White Boroondara agent Stephen Gough said a number of potential buyers had already expressed an interest in snapping up the home.
“It’s got a really good layout with good separation between the kids’ bedrooms and the parents’ bedroom,” Mr Gough said.
“Most of the houses here have been extended upwards, but this is on a single level. It just makes it easier to live in.
He said the location was also a winner, particularly for families, due to its proximity to shops, transport and good schools.
The 715sq m property is zoned for Camberwell High, Camberwell South Primary and Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College.
The home’s highlights include a kitchen with stone benchtops, European appliances and beautiful garden outlooks.
The formal sitting room at the front of the home is warmed by an open fireplace, while an adjacent formal dining room can also be used as a home office.
The main bedroom at the front of the home has a walk-in robe and ensuite, and each of the three remaining bedrooms have built-in robes.
Polished floorboards and high ceilings are a feature throughout, and there is a large family zone and covered outdoor area for entertaining.
The property is set for auction on March 27 at 1.30pm.
