coronavirus,

Two people in hotel quarantine in Canberra have returned “weak positive” tests for COVID-19. ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith on Wednesday said the positive tests could be a sign of early infections, or old infections. She said the two men, one in his 40s and a teenager, were asymptomatic. They are not from the same family. Ms Stephen-Smith said as of last Thursday, 50 per cent of hotel quarantine workers in the ACT had received a COVID-19 vaccine. She said this was a “pretty strong take up” of the jab given the ACT’s rollout of the vaccine only started last Monday, adding that, as at last Thursday, 70 per cent of Canberrans who fell under the ACT government’s responsibility in phase 1a had booked in to get their jab. The people in quarantine were among 177 Australian travellers who touched down in Canberra on a repatriation flight from Singapore on Monday evening. Of the travelers, 146 went to Pacific Suites on Northbourne Avenue and another 31 commercial passengers flew on to Sydney. Ms Stephen-Smith said the pair who tested positive would on Wednesday undergo further testing, and those results would determine how high the risk was to other passengers on the repatriation flight.
