Confidential can reveal the Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group has signed a deal with the Panthers Group to take over the site next to the Panthers Leagues Club and between a KFC and McDonalds by mid-year.
Initial plans to first open in the Sydney CBD were aborted due to the coronavirus pandemic as Seagrass widened its strategy to include suburban hubs.Other sites are being considered across Australia, including “the corridor from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour and Broadway”.“Panthers are over the moon to partner with Seagrass to bring the first Five Guys to Australia,” Panthers Group head of property Matthew Leavey said. “After a competitive process, we decided that aligning with a strong hospitality leader like Seagrass BHG to be able to introduce an iconic international brand like Five Guys to Penrith was in the best interest of our members and community”.
Five Guys management said the plans would see job opportunities across all levels.The decision to go with the 500sqm Penrith site was one that took six months with construction to begin over the coming weeks and an opening scheduled for mid year.The news comes weeks after Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg announced he would be bringing his Wahlburgers chain to Australia.Wahlberg and his brothers have gone into partnership with the Sydney based Mustaca family, who own the United Cinemas chain, in a deal worth more than $50 million.There are more than 1500 Five Guys fast food eateries around the world, the first of which was founded in 1986 in Arlington County, Virginia.It is known for its hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. Basketball great Shaquille O’Neal is one of the celebrity Five Guys franchisees. He has owned 155 of the eateries. Seagrass overseas a smorgasbord of top food venues across Australia, including The Meat and Wine Co, 6 Head, Ribs & Burgers, Italian Steak Kitchen, Hunter & Barrell and Butcher and the Farmer.
