Australian pitcher Liam Hendriks has agreed to a deal with the Chicago White Sox that will land him almost $70 million and stands as the largest deal signed this MLB off-season so far.
The signing continues the White Sox’s off-season push to build a championship contender, agreeing to a multi-year deal with former Oakland A’s closer Hendriks, according to a baseball official with direct knowledge of the deal.
The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the contract has not been finalised.
Hendriks’ deal would be for three years, plus an option for a fourth, and it would guarantee him $US54 million (almost $70 million). He will earn a $US1 million signing bonus, $US11 million in 2021, $US13 million in 2022, $US14 million in 2023 and a $US15 million club option or $15 million buyout in 2024. If the White Sox decline the option, the $US15 million will be paid out over the next 10 years with no interest.
