Yarralumla residents – and their owners – are itching to have the local dog park reopened. But it doesn’t look like happening any time soon. The dog park has been closed since late October to remove trees deemed “unsafe” by the ACT government arborist. It was expected to reopen in “early November”, according to the government. A Transport Canberra and City Services spokesperson said on Friday the dog park would be closed for “several more weeks” . “We appreciate how important this dog park is for the local community and are committed to opening it as soon as we can. It will need to remain closed for at least several more weeks,” the spokesperson said. “We have undertaken safety work on site removing 90 large trees for safety reasons and have some further work now to remove the stumps. “This work has now presented us with the opportunity to look at what improvements can be made while it is closed so we can bring long-term benefits. Based on feedback we are looking at how we can provide shade sails until new tree plantings grow up. “In the meantime we thank local residents for their patience. The closest nearby dog park is in Duffy.”
